Before you arrive

We bring our students together in a friendly, safe and vibrant community that creates a sociable and enriching living experience - and we can't wait for you to join us.

Each of our halls and accommodation sites has their own identity, character and community – the perfect base for exploring your new life in Nottingham.

Things to do before you join us

There are various tasks you need to complete before you join us to make your induction as streamlined as possible.

Please select from the tabs below whether you are a UK or international student to see a list of the essential tasks you need to complete before you arrive.

Are you a UK student or an international student? Please select from the tabs below.
1

Complete any pre-arrival tasks

Make sure you complete any tasks required by your accommodation provider well in advance of your arrival. If you're staying in university-owned accommodation, we will email you a link to your induction module in early September. Make sure to complete this as soon as possible, as this allows us to provide you with your full term-time address, including room number.

2

Pay your accommodation fees

You need to have paid your first instalment fees before the start date of your licence.

Students who are reliant on a Student Finance England maintenance loan to pay their accommodation fees can make a minimum payment of £250.00 by 12 September 2025 to secure their room.  This will then be deducted from your first period instalment, with the remainder due on or before 3 October 2025.

Students who are reliant upon securing a Student route visa should not make any payment for their accommodation until the visa has been granted. If a visa has not been secured by the first payment date, please email Student Account Services

3

Check your insurance cover

If you're living in halls managed by the University of Nottingham, visit the Howden website if you need to top up your cover.

4

Register for your university card

You need this to access your hall and other buildings such as libraries and sports facilities, and to use hopper buses. It will also be your meal/flexible lunch card.

7

Plan your arrival

Arrivals will begin on Friday, 19 September, and Saturday, 20 September.

Not sure what to do on the day? Don't worry, you will get instructions for arrivals via email in early September. You can also unlock your room number and key collection pass.

8

Plan your arrival

Arrival weekend will take place on Friday, 19 September, and Saturday, 20 September. You will receive arrival instructions from your accommodation provider in September.

It's important to plan your arrival well in advance and check with your accommodation provider when you will be able to move in. If you are staying in university-owned accommodation, you can request early arrival from Monday, 15 September via our online form. Arriving early will give you more time to get settled before starting your course induction on Monday, 22 September.

9

Get packing

Make sure to check what will be provided in your accommodation, so you know what you will need to bring with you. Make sure to bring weather appropriate clothing (the UK can be cold with lots of rainfall during Autumn and winter) and items that remind you of home.

Most accommodation in the UK does not provide any bedding (sheets, pillows, duvets, etc), however, you can buy this from local supermarkets when you arrive to save space. If you will be arriving late at night, consider what you will need and bring a blanket just in case.

Not sure what you will need in Halls, or maybe some items you shouldn't bring with you?

Make sure that you have everything you need for your new home by reading our guide on what to bring.
