Students' Union
Become a course rep and get your voice heard
Your Students’ Union (SU) is at the heart of student life.
They are an independent, student-led organisation that represents your needs, protects your rights and, when it comes to making important decisions that affect you, makes sure your voice is heard. And as a University of Nottingham student, you’re already a valued and celebrated member of the SU.
From its home in the Portland Building, the SU works hard to make sure your university experience is the best it can be, from the day you arrive to the day you graduate. They’re here to make sure that you can experience a huge range of social, cultural, sporting, and recreational activities, make changes by standing up for what you believe in, and find support when you need a helping hand.
Welcome message from PsychSoc!
The Psychology Society (PsychSoc) is a student-run society dedicated to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging community for all Psychology students at the University of Nottingham. We’re also committed to providing opportunities for both Psychology and non-Psychology students to explore research within the department and discover career paths in the field of psychology.
PsychSoc gives you the opportunity to integrate into university and make new friends from all different years. Becoming a member of PsychSoc is the best way to meet like-minded people. You’ll get to make friends outside of your degree, have fun alongside your studies and discover a whole new network of people. We have several events planned throughout the year, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
There are many ways to get involved with our committee. Whether you’d like to share your opinions and ideas or take up a more active role in the society, we have something for everyone. Our committee roles are always open to those who want to fully immerse themselves in our society.
We would love to welcome you into the PsychSoc family! Our community is full of opportunities to make unforgettable memories. We can’t wait for you to join us at our events and become part of our vibrant community.
Throughout the year, PsychSoc hosts a wide range of events—including socials, academic talks, clubs, and wellbeing activities—designed to bring students together and enrich your university experience.
What We’ve Achieved Recently
Over the past year, we've focused on making our society more inclusive and accessible than ever before. Here's how we've done that:
Increased Accessibility & Reduced Costs
We’ve worked hard to reduce financial barriers by securing funding from the Faculty of Science. This support has allowed us to lower ticket prices and increase the number of free events we offer to members.
More Non-Drinking Events:
We’ve expanded our range of alcohol-free socials, including:
- Welfare walks at Wollaton Park (with a free café drink for attendees)
- Group meals at Coco Tang and Revolución de Cuba (welcoming to all)
- Free movie nights (with snacks provided)
- Christmas market trips
- Free pizza socials
Supportive events for all
With funding from the Psychology Department’s People and Culture Committee, we’re planning tailored events for neurodiverse and postgraduate members, plus a free pizza welfare event for all members (details TBA).
Active clubs and community
We’ve increased the frequency of our socials and expanded our society clubs, including:
- Netball team
- Football team
- A newly launched Book Club
Welfare-Focused Initiatives
Supporting mental health is a priority for us. We’ve introduced and maintained:
Looking ahead
In the upcoming academic year, we’re excited to build on these successes and continue evolving as a society that supports its members and contributes meaningfully to the wider university community.

Societies - get involved, have fun
You can join any of our diverse and vibrant societies. With over 200 societies and other student-run groups and services you can pursue your current passion or hobby, find a society or organisation specific to your degree such as languages, film and television, other cultures and countries such as America and Canada… or try something new? You might even want to start your own society.
Become a course representative
Course reps are a vital part of the student voice. Through gathering feedback from your peers, sitting in key meetings and by lobbying or campaigning for positive change, you can make a real difference to the academic experience of those on your course.
