Planning your data management

A data management plan (DMP) is as unique as the research project it supports. We subscribe to the DMPonline tool to help you create your plan and support your funding applications.

Using DMPonline

By registering on DMPonline with your UoN login, you can write plans based on a variety of funder and faculty templates, share plans with collaborators, and request a review by specialists in UoN Libraries.

Selecting a template

Picking an appropriate template will guarantee that your DMP is correctly formatted for funding applications and meets your funder and institutional requirements.

We recommend choosing a template according to the following order:

  1. Funder template (if applicable)
  2. UoN faculty template (where available)
  3. UoN standard template

Available templates in DMPonline

Funder templates

If your research project is funded, you should select the relevant funder template in DMPonline (if available).

Funders with templates in DMPonline:

  • Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)
  • Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC)
  • Cancer Research UK (CRUK)
  • Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)
  • European Research Council (ERC)
  • Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)
  • Medical Research Council (MRC)
  • Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)
  • Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC)
  • Wellcome Trust

Faculty templates

The following faculties offer bespoke guidance in DMPonline. If your faculty isn't listed here, please use a standard UoN template.

Faculty-specific guidance for writing DMPs can usually be found on Faculty RKE SharePoints.

  • Faculty of Arts
  • Faculty of Engineering

Standard templates

University of Nottingham Libraries have created two standard UoN templates in DMPonline: one for staff and postgraduate research students and one for undergraduate and postgraduate taught students.

  • University of Nottingham Staff/PGR Data Management Plan
