Nottingham archers overcome the elements to claim BUCS Outdoor medals

The University of Nottingham Archery Club recently competed at the 2025 BUCS (British University & Colleges Sport) Outdoor Championships at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre. Taking on competitors from around the country as well as battling the natural elements, Nottingham athletes delivered fantastic performances to claim a number of medals.

I am so proud of the club for our achievements this year. Our performances at BUCS were full of the highest level performances.

The 2025 BUCS Outdoor Championships saw major success for the #GreenandGold in a year in which our chances looked uncertain. Following a gruelling 2 days of shooting on the weekend of the 14th and 15th June - within which arrows were lost, hair was windswept, and most importantly ten rings were obliterated - Nottingham prevailed.

Stellar performances from our women's side of Daisy Underwood, Hannah Evans, Eva Jessen secured a well earned bronze in the Experienced Women's non compound category, with Eva Jessen also securing her own bronze in the Experienced Women's Barebow category.

Our longbows also aimed high with Jago Elliot completing a dominant victory to claim Experienced Men's Longbow gold, whilst Reuel Crossdale secured silver in his first year of shooting in the Novice Men's Longbow category.

More novice success followed with Jess Wrona producing some excellent grit to claim silver in the Novice Women's Recurve, and an outstanding performance from our newest archer Nicola Harper saw her claim a brilliant bronze medal in the Novice Women's Barebow category.

Overall, in a championships that at times felt like it was Nottingham against the weather more than anything, Nottingham certainly won that battle. We congratulate all of our archers on their success at the championships.

Reflecting on the performances of our University of Nottingham competitors, team captain Joe Barton said "I am so proud of the club for our achievements this year. Our performances at BUCS were full of the highest level performances. Each archer played their part in what was a successful end to this years outdoor season and it is a sign of a promising year to come next year!"

The club continue to look forward by aiming to continue dominating the local toucan league, and by collecting more medals in future BUCS competitions.
