On 14–15 July 2025, the University of Nottingham’s School of Law and Human Rights Law Centre hosted the second Nottingham International Criminal Justice Conference, bringing together 50 academics and practitioners to explore the latest developments in international criminal justice.
Held on University Park campus, the Conference featured vibrant, interdisciplinary discussions on topics including the evolving purposes of international criminal justice, recent ICC decisions, environmental harms, technological challenges, and the emotional labour of legal professionals. A recurring theme was the importance of state cooperation with the ICC and the role of domestic prosecutions in advancing justice beyond The Hague.
Conference Organisers:
- Professor Olympia Bekou – Head of the International Criminal Justice Unit, HRLC; Professor of Public International Law; Head of School, School of Law
- Dr Natalie Hodgson – Head of the Forced Migration Unit, HRLC; Assistant Professor, School of Law
- Dr Hemi Mistry – Member of the International Criminal Justice Unit, HRLC; Associate Professor, School of Law
We extend our sincere thanks to all speakers, chairs, and participants for their contributions, and to our student volunteers and APM team for their invaluable support.
We look forward to welcoming colleagues back to Nottingham for next year’s Conference.
