Biography

I joined the University of Nottingham in April 2025 and I am currently Professor of Nursing and Dean and Head of School of Health Sciences. I'm a Registered Nurse (Adult), with a clinical background in acute medicine and, primarily, critical care. I have worked in several HEIs, across England and Wales since 2004. Prior to joining the University of Nottingham in April 2025, I was a Professor of Nursing and Deputy Head of Department, Nursing, Midwifery and Health at Northumbria University and, in early 2024 was Interim Head of Department.

I have extensive educational experience and teach at undergraduate to doctoral level. I have been a module leader (notably at PGT and Prof Doctoral level) and undertaken extensive module, programme and strategic reviews and validation and re-validation activity. My research interests focus on chronic conditions, service user experiences, early career researcher development and qualitative methods. I'm an experienced PI and have successfully secured funding from a range of funding bodies, including NIHR.

I co-led UoA3 activity at University of South Wales for REF2014 and was co-lead for the REF review process for UoA3 at the School of Healthcare Sciences, Cardiff University for REF21. I'm an editorial board member of the Journal of Renal Care and was the winner of Supporting Improvement through Research Award at the RCN Wales, Nurse of the Year Awards 2023.
