Shreya Dathathraya - MSc Information Systems and Operations Management
Shreya Dathathraya studied MSc Information Systems and Operations Management in 2024/25, guided by her interest in running her own business after university and her desire to pursue a course aligned with her entrepreneurial ambitions.
She said: “The curriculum offered a comprehensive blend of practical and strategic knowledge, while the supportive learning environment reassured me that I’d be guided every step of the way toward achieving my goals. Modules such as Data Management and Business Intelligence particularly stood out to me, as they equipped me with the skills to make data-driven decisions that are essential for running a successful business.”
Shreya decided to study at Nottingham because of the university’s reputation as a Russell Group institution and its strong focus on career development. She explained: “I was drawn to the university’s strong focus on career development, especially knowing it ranks third in the UK for top employers, offering lifelong career support. Additionally, its research-driven approach to learning and the structure of my course were key factors that confirmed it was the right place to help me gain valuable experience and work towards my long-term entrepreneurial goals.”
One of Shreya’s favourite modules was Operations and Supply Chain Strategy and Practice where the use of real-world case studies provided the opportunity for a deeper understanding of the subject, connecting theory with practical applications.
The Business School offers many opportunities for its students to gain additional, real-world experiences that will prepare them for the workplace.
Shreya added:
"The Business School has done a great job of preparing me for the workplace by offering practical insights beyond the classroom. One standout experience was attending a guest lecture by an IBM employee, which completely shifted my perspective. It highlighted the value of gaining industry experience before starting my own business and offered valuable advice on workplace expectations, along with useful do’s and don’ts. Sessions like these have made me feel more confident and better equipped to navigate professional environments.”
